Healing Power of Sound and Connecting to the Wisdom of the Daoist Lineage of Immortals through Reverent Recitation of the Mysterious Gate Morning Scripture
A group of international students came together to learn and sing the morning scripture. Daily routine started with singing the Dao De Jing’s first few lines saying:
The Way that can be walked is not the eternal Way.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of Heaven and Earth.
The named is the mother of all things.
Therefore:
Free from desire you see the mystery.
Full of desire you see the manifestations.
These two have the same origin but differ in name.
That is the secret,
The secret of secrets,
The gate to all mysteries.”
It was followed by singing the five healing tones: jue, zhi, gong, shang, and yu which through their specific sound characteristic, frequency, and pitch regulate the body’s five elements, balance the organs in a generative cycle and restore harmony of the natural cyclical transformations.
The main focus was to learn the morning scripture. After gaining understanding and insights from shifu’s explanation of the scripture text the group learnt to recite and sing the scripture. Through the scripture singing the practitioner pays respect and reverence to all the lineage teachers and immortals; wishes goodwill, peace, and harmony for all humanity; helps to unify the realms of heaven, earth, and man; and takes refuge in the three treasures of the Dao, scriptures, and teachers.
Sincere recitation helps to overcome obstacles in cultivation and to resolve karmic affliction by connecting with the wisdom of the masters, and the benevolent and positive higher dimensional energy fields.
Ceremonial instruments are used during the scripture. Those are mainly the wooden fish, the metal “dang”, “cha”, and singing bowl instruments, as well as the leather drum.
The sounds of the wooden and metal instruments connect to and harmonize the ethereal (hun) and corporeal (po) spirits, respectively. The sound of the leather drum facilitates the tou ding xuan 头顶玄 connection and the development of wisdom and insight.
Singing the scripture is a tool to unify with the Dao, follow the natural way free from conditioned desire based habits and cognition, become one with the truth. It also helps to regulate the body and cultivate longevity. The vibrational frequencies of the sound waves of the scripture recitation are capable of cleansing the five organs, six viscera, qi, blood, meridians, channels, and the cells. It can heighten our energetic fields’ vibrational frequencies.
Wholeheartedly reciting and chanting the scriptures of sagely appellation enable us to obtain the mercy of high-dimensional Realized Ones and sages, eliminating our own body’s karmic afflictions, far distancing ourselves from negative energetic fields.
